Thistopicprovidesinstructionsonhowtocreate,add,ordeleteaRAIDarrayusingtheLSISoftwareRAID
ConfigurationUtilityprogram.
Note:BeforeyoucreateaRAIDarrayusingtheLSISoftwareRAIDConfigurationUtilityprogram,makesure
thattheservermeetstherequiredhardwareconfiguration.Forexample,theserverneedstohavethe
requirednumberofSATAharddiskdrivesinstalledandconnectedtothesystemboard.See“AboutRAID”
onpage73
forinformationabouttherequirednumberofharddiskdrivesforeachRAIDlevel.Ifyouwantto
createaRAID5arrayusingtheLSISoftwareRAIDConfigurationUtilityprogram,theserveralsoneedsto

Tocreate,add,ordeleteaRAIDarrayusingtheLSISoftwareRAIDConfigurationUtilityprogram,dothe
following:
1.StarttheLSISoftwareRAIDConfigurationUtilityprogram.See“StartingtheLSISoftwareRAID
ConfigurationUtilityprogram”onpage76.
2.Onthemaininterfaceoftheprogram,dooneofthefollowingdependingonyourneeds:
•IfyouwanttocreateaRAIDarray,selectEasyConfigurationandthenfollowtheinstructionson
thescreen.
•IfyouwanttoaddasecondaryRAIDconfiguration,selectView/AddConfigurationandthenfollow
theinstructionsonthescreentoviewthecurrentconfigurationandaddanewconfiguration.
•IfyouwanttodeletetheexistingRAIDconfiguration,exittheprogramandbackupallyourdataon
theharddiskdrives.Afterbackingupallyourdata,entertheprogrammaininterfaceandselectClear
Configuration.SelectYeswhenpromptedandfollowtheinstructionsonthescreen.
Attention:DeletingtheexistingRAIDconfigurationerasesalldataonthevirtualdrive.Makesurethat
youbackupalldatabeforedeletingtheRAIDarray.Iftheoperatingsystemisinstalledonthevirtual
driveyouwanttodelete,youneedtoreinstalltheoperatingsystemaftercompletingtheoperation.
•IfyouwanttodeletetheexistingRAIDconfigurationandmakeanewconfiguration,exittheprogram
andbackupallyourdataontheharddiskdrives.Afterbackingupallyourdata,entertheprogram
maininterfaceandselectNewConfiguration.SelectYeswhenpromptedtoproceedandthen
followtheinstructionsonthescreen.
Attention:DeletingtheexistingRAIDconfigurationerasesalldataonthevirtualdrive.Makesurethat
youbackupalldatabeforedeletingtheRAIDarray.Iftheoperatingsystemisinstalledonthevirtual
driveyouwanttodelete,youneedtoreinstalltheoperatingsystemaftercompletingtheoperation.
Initializingavirtualdrive
ThistopicprovidesinstructionsonhowtoinitializeavirtualdriveusingtheLSISoftwareRAIDConfiguration
Utilityprogramaftercompletingtheconfigurationprocess.
Virtualdriveinitializationistheprocessofwritingzerostothedatafieldsofavirtualdriveand,infault-tolerant
RAIDlevels,generatingthecorrespondingparitytoputthevirtualdriveinareadystate.Initializationerases
alldataonthevirtualdrive.Drivegroupswillworkwithoutbeinginitialized,buttheycanfailaconsistency
checkbecausetheparityfieldshavenotbeengenerated.
Notes:
1.Makesurethatyoubackupanydatayouwanttokeepbeforeinitializingavirtualdrive.
2.Makesurethattheoperatingsystemisnotinstalledonthevirtualdriveyouareinitializing.Otherwise,
youneedtoreinstalltheoperatingsystemaftercompletingtheoperation.
