TheSetupUtilityprogramisusedtoviewandchangethecongurationsettingsofyourcomputer,regardless

ofwhichoperatingsystemyouareusing.However,theoperating-systemsettingsmightoverrideanysimilar

settingsintheSetupUtilityprogram.

StartingtheSetupUtilityprogram

TostarttheSetupUtilityprogram,dothefollowing:

1.Ifyourcomputerisalreadyonwhenyoustartthisprocedure,shutdowntheoperatingsystemand

turnoffthecomputer.

2.PressandholdtheF1keythenturnonthecomputer.WhentheSetupUtilityprogramisdisplayed,

releasetheF1key.

Note:IfaPower-OnPasswordoranadministratorpasswordhasbeenset,theSetupUtilityprogrammenuis

notdisplayeduntilyoutypeyourpassword.Formoreinformation,see“Usingpasswords.”

Viewingandchangingsettings

SystemcongurationoptionsarelistedintheSetupUtilityprogrammenu.Tovieworchangesettings,

see“StartingtheSetupUtilityprogram.”

YoumustusethekeyboardwhenusingtheSetupUtilitymenu.Thekeysusedtoperformvarioustasksare

displayedonthebottomofeachscreen.

Usingpasswords

YoucanusetheSetupUtilityprogramtosetpasswordstopreventunauthorizedpersonsfromgaining

accesstoyourcomputeranddata.See“StartingtheSetupUtilityprogram.”Thefollowingtypesof

passwordsareavailable:

•AdministratorPassword

•Power-OnPassword

Youdonothavetosetanypasswordstouseyourcomputer.However,ifyoudecidetosetpasswords,read

thefollowingsections.

Passwordconsiderations

Apasswordcanbeanycombinationoflettersandnumbersupto16character(a-z,and0-9).Forsecurity

reasons,itisagoodideatouseastrongpasswordthatcannotbeeasilycompromised.Wesuggestthat

passwordsshouldfollowtheserules:

•Strongpasswordscontain7-16characters,combinelettersandnumbers.

•Donotuseyournameoryourusername.

•Donotuseacommonwordoracommonname.

•Besignicantlydifferentfromyourpreviouspassword.

Attention:AdministratorandPower-Onpasswordsarenotcasesensitive
