Thissectionpresentsexplodedfigureswiththeinstructionstoindicatehowto
removeandreplacetheFRU.Makesuretoobservethefollowinggeneralrules:
1. Donotattempttoserviceanycomputerunlessyouhavebeentrainedand
certified.Anuntrainedpersonrunstheriskofdamagingparts.
2. BeforereplacinganyFRU,review“FRUreplacementnotices”onpage31.
3. BeginbyremovinganyFRUsthathavetoberemovedbeforethefailingFRU.
AnyofsuchFRUsarelistedatthetopofthepage.Removethemintheorder
inwhichtheyarelisted.
4. FollowthecorrectsequenceinthestepstoremovetheFRU,asgiveninthe
figuresbythenumbersinsquarecallouts.
5. WhenturningascrewtoreplaceanFRU,turnitinthedirectionasgivenby
thearrowinthefigure.
6. WhenremovingtheFRU,moveitinthedirectionasgivenbythearrowinthe
figure.
7. ToputthenewFRUinplace,reversetheremovalproceduresandfollowany
ofthenotesthatpertaintoreplacement.Forinformationaboutconnecting
andarranginginternalcables,see“Locations”onpage65.
8. WhenreplacinganFRU,usethecorrectscrewasshownintheprocedures.
Attention:AfterreplacinganFRU,donotturnonthecomputeruntilyouhave
madesurethatallscrews,springs,andothersmallpartsareinplaceandnone
arelooseinsidethecomputer.Verifythisbyshakingthecomputergentlyand
listeningforrattlingsounds.Metallicpartsormetalflakescancauseelectrical
shortcircuits.
Attention:Thesystemboardissensitiveto,andcanbedamagedby,electrostatic
discharge.Beforetouchingit,establishpersonalgroundingbytouchinga
groundpointwithonehandorusinganelectrostaticdischarge(ESD)strap
(P/N6405959)toremovepotentialshockreasons.

Removing and replacing an FRU

BeforeremovinganyFRU,turnoffthecomputer,unplugallpowercords
fromelectricaloutlets,removethebatterypack,andthendisconnectanyof
theinterconnectingcables.
