1.Makesuretheopticaldriveyouwanttouseissetastherstbootdeviceinthestartupdevicesequence.
2.Makesurethecomputeristurnedon.Insertthediscintotheopticaldrive.
3.Turnoffthecomputerandbackonagain.Theupdatebegins.
4.Whenpromptedtochangetheserialnumber,pressN.
Note:Ifyouwanttochangetheserialnumber,pressYwhenprompted.Typeintheserialnumber
andthenpressEnter.
5.Whenpromptedtochangethemachinetype/model,pressN.

2.Dothefollowingtolocatethedownloadablelesforyourmachinetype:
a.IntheEnteraproductnumbereld,typeyourmachinetypeandclickGo.
b.ClickDownloadsanddrivers.
c.SelectBIOSintheReneresultseldtoeasilylocatealltheBIOSrelatedlinks.
d.ClicktheBIOSupdatelink.
e.ClicktheTXTlethatcontainstheinstructionsforupdating(ashing)BIOSfromyouroperating
system.
3.Printtheseinstructions.Thisisveryimportantbecausetheyarenotonthescreenafterthedownload
begins.
4.Followtheprintedinstructionstodownload,extract,andinstalltheupdate.
RecoveringfromaPOST/BIOSupdatefailure
IfpowertoyourcomputerisinterruptedwhilePOST/BIOSisbeingupdated(ashupdate),yourcomputer
mightnotrestartcorrectly.Ifthishappens,performthefollowingprocedurecommonlycalledBoot-block

1.Turnoffthecomputerandanyattacheddevices,suchasprinters,monitors,andexternaldrives.
2.Unplugallpowercordsfromelectricaloutlets,andopenthecomputercover.See“Removingthe

3.Accessthesystemboard.
4.LocatetheClearCMOS/Recoveryjumperonthesystemboard.See“Locatingpartsonthesystem
boardonpage113.
5.RemoveanycablesthatimpedeaccesstotheClearCMOS/Recoveryjumper.
6.Movethejumperfromthestandardposition(pins1and2)topins2and3.
7.Reinstalltheadaptercards(somemodels).
8.Closethecomputercoverandreconnectanycablesthatweredisconnected.
