CustomerReplaceableUnits(CRUs)arecomputerpartsthatthecustomercan
upgradeorreplace.TherearetwotypesofCRU:self-serviceandoptional-service.
Self-serviceCRUsareeasytoinstall.Theymaybestandaloneorlatched,
orrequireascrewdrivertoremoveamaximumoftwoscrews,whereas
optional-serviceCRUsrequiresometechnicalskill,aswellastoolssuchasa
screwdriver.However,bothself-serviceandoptional-serviceCRUsaresafefor
thecustomertoremoveandreplace.
Customersareresponsibleforreplacingallself-serviceCRUs.Optional-service
CRUscanberemovedandinstalledbycustomersor,duringthewarrantyperiod,
byaLenovoservicetechnician.
Lenovonotebookcomputerscontainbothself-serviceandoptional-serviceCRUs:
•Self-serviceCRUs:TheseCRUscanbeunplugged,oraresecuredbyno
morethantwoscrews.ExamplesofthistypeofCRUaretheacpoweradapter,
thepowercord,thebattery,andtheharddiskdrive.Insomeproducts,such
componentsasmemorymodules,wirelesscards,notebookkeyboards,and
palmrestswithngerprintreaderandtouchpadmayalsobeCRUs.
•Optional-serviceCRUs:TheseCRUsareisolatedpartswithinthecomputer
thatareconcealedbyanaccesspanel,whichistypicallysecuredbymorethan
twoscrews.Oncetheaccesspanelisremoved,theCRUisvisible.Bothtypes
ofCRUarelistedinthetableonthefollowingpage.

instructionsforreplacingself-serviceandoptional-serviceCRUs.TheWebsite
offersthreeoptionstobeginyoursearch:
