Yourcomputerhasaspecialtypeofmemorythatmaintainsthedate,time,andsettingsforbuilt-infeatures,
suchasparallel-connectorassignments(configuration).Abatterykeepsthisinformationactivewhenyou
turnoffthecomputer.
Thebatterynormallyrequiresnochargingormaintenancethroughoutitslife;however,nobatterylasts
forever.Ifthebatteryfails,thedate,time,andconfigurationinformation(includingpasswords)arelost.An
errormessageisdisplayedwhenyouturnonthecomputer.
Refertothe“Lithiumcoincellbatterynotice”intheSafety,Warranty,andSetupGuideforinformationabout
replacinganddisposingofthebattery.
Toreplacethebattery,dothefollowing:
1.Removeanymediafromthedrivesandturnoffallattacheddevicesandthecomputer.Then,disconnect
allpowercordsfromelectricaloutletsanddisconnectallcablesthatareconnectedtothecomputer.
2.Removethecomputercover.See“Removingthecomputercover”onpage73.
3.Locatethebattery.See“Locatingpartsonthesystemboard”onpage6.
4.Removetheoldbattery.
