5.ClickOptimizeintheOptimizeDriveswindowthatisdisplayedtostartadisk-defragmentationprocess.
Printerproblems
Symptom:Theprinterdoesnotwork.
Actions:Verifythat:
1.Theprinteristurnedonandisonline.
2.Paperisloadedcorrectly.
3.Theprintersignalcableissecurelyconnectedtothecorrectparallel,serial,orUSBconnectoronthe
computer.
Note:Non-IEEE-approvedprintersignalcablesmightcauseunpredictableproblems.
1.Anydevicedriversandothersoftwarethatcamewiththeprinterarecorrectlyinstalled.
2.Youhaveassignedtheprinterportcorrectlyinyouroperatingsystem,applicationprogram,orBIOS
settings.FormoreinformationaboutBIOSsettings,seeChapter7“UsingtheSetupUtilityprogram”
onpage51.
Iftheproblempersists,runthetestsdescribedinthedocumentationthatcomeswithyourprinter.Ifyou

Serialportproblems
Usethisinformationtotroubleshoottheserialportanddevicesattachedtotheserialport.
Symptom:Serialportcannotbeaccessed.
Actions:
Makesuretheserialcableissecurelyconnectedtotheserialportonthecomputerandtotheserial
device.Iftheserialdevicehasitsownpowercord,makesureitisattachedtoaproperlygrounded
electricaloutlet.
IftheserialdevicehasitsownOn/Offswitch,makesureitisintheOnposition.
IftheserialdevicehasanOnlineswitch,makesureitisintheOnlineposition.
Iftheserialdeviceisaprinter,makesurepaperisloadedcorrectly.
Verifythatanysoftwaresuppliedwiththeserialdeviceiscorrectlyinstalled.Refertothedocumentation
fortheserial-deviceoption.
Makesurethattheserial-portadapter,ifyouaddedone,isproperlyinstalledandfirmlyseated.
