Problem:Thesystemdoesnotrespond,andyoucannotturnoffthecomputer.
Solution:Turnoffthecomputerbypressingandholdingthepowerbuttonforfoursecondsormore.Ifthe
systemisstillnotreset,removetheacpoweradapterandresetthesystembyinsertingoneendofaneedle
orastraightenedpaperclipintotheemergency-resethole.Tolocatetheemergency-resethole,refer

Bootproblems

Ifyoureceiveanerrormessagewhiletheoperatingsystemisloadingthedesktopconfigurationafterthe
POSTiscompleted,checkthefollowingitems:

Sleepandhibernationproblems
Problem:Thecomputerenterssleepmodeunexpectedly.
Solution:Ifthemicroprocessoroverheats,thecomputerautomaticallyenterssleepmodetoallowthe
computertocoolandtoprotectthemicroprocessorandotherinternalcomponents.Checkthesettings
forsleepmode.
Problem:Thecomputerenterssleepmodeimmediatelyafterthepower-onself-test.
Solution:Ensurethat:
Thebatteryischarged.
Theoperatingtemperatureiswithintheacceptablerange.Referto“Operatingenvironment”onpage

Ifthebatteryischargedandthetemperatureiswithinrange,havethecomputerserviced.
Problem:Acriticallow-batteryerroroccurs,andthecomputerimmediatelyturnsoff.
Solution:Thebatterypowerisgettinglow.Connecttheacpoweradaptertothecomputerandplugit
intoanelectricaloutlet.
Problem:ThecomputerdisplayremainsblankafteryoupressFntoreturnfromsleepmode.
Solution:Checkwhetheranexternalmonitorwasdisconnectedorturnedoffwhilethecomputerwas
insleepmode.Ifyoudisconnectedorturnedofftheexternalmonitor,connectitorturnitonbefore
resumingthecomputerfromthesleepmode.Whenresumingthecomputerfromthesleepmode
withoutattachingtheexternalmonitororturningiton,andthecomputerdisplayremainsblank,press
F6tobringupthecomputerdisplay.
Problem:Thecomputerdoesnotreturnfromsleepmode,orthesystem-statusindicator(illuminated
ThinkPadlogo)blinksslowlyandthecomputerdoesnotwork.
Solution:Ifthesystemdoesnotreturnfromsleepmode,itmighthaveenteredsleeporhibernation
modeautomaticallybecausethebatteryisdepleted.Checkthesystem-statusindicator(illuminated
