Tipsonusingtheharddiskpasswords
•YoucansettheminimumlengthofaharddiskpasswordthroughtheSecuritymenu.
•Ifyousetaharddiskpasswordofoversevencharacters,theharddiskdrivecanbeusedonlywitha
computerthatcanrecognizeaharddiskpasswordofoversevencharacters.Ifyoutheninstallthe
harddiskdriveinacomputerthatcannotrecognizeaharddiskpasswordthatcontainsmorethan
sevencharacters,youcannotaccessthedrive.
•Recordyourpasswordandstoreitinasafeplace.Ifyouforgettheuserharddiskpassword,orbothuser
andmasterharddiskpasswords,Lenovocannotresetyourpasswordsorrecoverdatafromtheharddisk
drive.YoumusttakeyourcomputertoaLenovoreselleroramarketingrepresentativetohavethehard
diskdrivereplaced.Proofofpurchaseisrequired,andafeewillbechargedforpartsandservice.

Toprotectpasswordsfromunauthorizedsecurityattacks,refertothefollowingtipstomaximizesecurity:
•Setapower-onpasswordaswellasaharddiskpasswordforyourinternalsolid-statedriveorharddisk
drive.Refertotheproceduresin“Power-onpassword”onpage49and“Harddiskpasswords”onpage
51.Forsecurity,alongerpasswordisrecommended.
•ToprovidereliablesecurityfortheUEFIBIOS,usethesecuritychipandasecurityapplicationwitha
TrustedPlatformModulemanagementfeature.Referto“Settingthesecuritychip”onpage54
