Chapter5.Updatingtheﬁrmware

Thischapterprovidesinstructionsonhowtoupdatetheﬁrmwareofthestoragearray.

Youcanupdatetheﬁrmwarethroughoneofthefollowingmethods:

•Usingtheout-of-bandRS232console

•UsingtheThinkServerStorageArrayUtilityprogram

Note:Itisrecommendedthatyouusetheout-of-bandRS232consoletoupdatetheﬁrmware.

UsingtheRS-232console

TheRS-232consoleusestheXmodemprotocoltoupdatetheﬁrmwareofyourstoragearray.Beforeyou

start,prepareacomputerthatmeetsthefollowingrequirements:

•HasanavailableDB9serialconnector.

•Hasaserial-connectorconﬁgurationprograminstalled,suchastheSecureCRTprogram.

Toupdatetheﬁrmwareofyourstoragearray,dothefollowing:

1.ConnectoneendoftheDB9-to-RJ11debugcable(providedinyourstoragearraypackage)tothe

debugconnectorontherearI/Omoduleofthestoragearray.Then,connecttheotherendofthedebug

cabletotheDB9serialconnectoronthecomputer.

2.Starttheserial-connectorconﬁgurationprogram.

Note:ThefollowingstepsarebasedonthescenariothatSecureCRTisstarted.Ifyouareusinga

differentserial-connectorconﬁgurationprogram,theprocedureissimilar.

3.Onthemenubar,clickFile➙QuickConnect.TheQuickConnectwindowisdisplayed.

4.ConﬁguretheDB9serialconnectorasthefollowing:

Protocol:Serial

Port:COMx(xreferstotheserialnumberoftheDB9serialconnector)

Baudrate:115200

Databits:8

Parity:none

Stopbits:1

5.CleartheRTS/CTScheckbox,andthenclickConnect.Thestoragearrayisconnectedtothecomputer.

6.Enterlenovointhemainwindow.TheSerialDebugMenuisdisplayed.

7.Enter2.TheFlashMenuisdisplayed.

8.Enter1.Themessage“WaitingForX-modemTransfer”isdisplayed.

9.Onthemenubar,clickTransfer➙SendXmodem,the“SelectFiletoSendusingXmodem”windowis

displayed.

10.Browsetothe*_sxp_*.binﬁle,andthenclickSend.Theﬁletransferstarts.

11.Whenthetransferprogressiscompleted,enter2.Themessage“WaitingForX-modemTransfer”is

displayed.

12.Onthemenubar,clickTransfer➙SendXmodem,the“SelectFiletoSendusingXmodem”windowis

displayed.
