Understandingthepower-savingmodes
Thereareseveralmodesthatyoucanuseatanytimetoconservepower.Thissectionintroduceseach
modeandgivestipsontheeffectiveuseofthebatterypower.
Introducingthepower-savingmodes
•Screenblank.Thecomputerdisplayrequiresconsiderablebatterypower.Toputthecomputerinto
screenblankmode,right-clickthebatterygaugefromtheWindowsnoticationareaandselectPower
offdisplay.
•Sleep.Insleepmode,yourworkissavedtomemory,andthenthesolidstatedriveortheharddisk
driveandthecomputerdisplayareturnedoff.Whenyourcomputerwakesup,yourworkisrestored
withinseconds.
Toputyourcomputerintosleepmode,pressFn+F4.Toreturnfromsleepmode,pressFnkey.
Dependingonthecomputermodel,yourcomputermightsupportthe30DayStandbyfunction.When
thisfunctionisenabled,thecomputerconsumesevenlesspowerinthesleepmodeandtakesonly
secondstoresumenormaloperationwhenyoupressthepowerbutton.Toenablethe30DayStandby
function,dothefollowing:
1.OpenthePowerManagerprogramandswitchtotheadvancedview.
2.ClicktheGlobalPowerSettingstabandselectEnable30DayStandby.
3.ClickApply.The30DayStandbyfunctionwilltakeeffectthenexttimeyoustartyourcomputer.
Formoreinformationaboutthe30DayStandbyfunction,refertothehelpinformationsystemofthe
PowerManagerprogram.
Youalsocanusethecombinationtoputthecomputerintohibernationmodeordo-nothingmodeby
changingthesettingsinthePowerManagerprogram.
•Hibernation.Byusingthismode,youcanturnoffyourcomputercompletelywithoutsavinglesorexiting
fromanyapplicationsthatarerunning.Whenthecomputerentershibernation,allopenapplications,
folders,andlesaresavedtotheharddisk,andthenthecomputerturnsoff.Toenterhibernation,press
Fn+F12.Toresumeyoursession,pressthepowerbuttonfornomorethanfourseconds.
Whenyouarenotusingthewirelessfeatures,suchasBluetoothorwirelessLAN,turnthemoff.Thiswill
helpconservepower.Toturnoffthewirelessfeatures,pressFn+F5.
Enablingthewakeupfunction
Ifyouputyourcomputerintohibernationmode,andthewakeupfunctionisdisabled(thisisthedefault
setting),thecomputerdoesnotconsumeanypower.Ifthewakeupfunctionisenabled,itconsumesasmall
amountofpower.Toenablethefunction,dothefollowing:
1.ClickStart➙ControlPanel➙SystemandSecurity.
2.ClickAdministrativeTools.
3.ClickTaskScheduler.Ifyouarepromptedforanadministratorpasswordorconrmation,typethe
passwordorprovideconrmation.
4.Fromtheleftpane,selectthetaskfolderforwhichyouwanttoenablethewakeupfunction.The
scheduledtasksaredisplayed.
5.Clickascheduledtask,andthenclicktheConditionstab.
6.UnderPower,selectthecheckboxforWakethecomputertorunthistask.
