CustomerReplaceableUnits(CRUs)arecomputerpartsthatthecustomer

canupgradeorreplace.TherearetwotypesofCRUs:self-serviceand

optional-service.Self-serviceCRUsareeasytoinstall.Theymaybestandalone

orlatched,orrequireascrewdrivertoremoveamaximumoftwoscrews,whereas

optional-serviceCRUsrequiresometechnicalskill,aswellastoolssuchasa

screwdriver.However,bothself-serviceandoptional-serviceCRUsaresafefor

thecustomertoremoveandreplace.

Customersareresponsibleforreplacingallself-serviceCRUs.Optional-service

CRUscanberemovedandinstalledbycustomersor,duringthewarrantyperiod,

byaLenovoservicetechnician.

Lenovonotebookcomputerscontainbothself-serviceandoptional-serviceCRUs:

•Self-serviceCRUs:theseCRUscanbeunplugged,oraresecuredbynomore

thantwoscrews.ExamplesofthistypeofCRUaretheACadapter,thepower

cord,thebattery,andtheharddrive.Insomeproducts,suchcomponentsas

memory,wirelesscards,notebookkeyboards,andpalmrestswithngerprint

readerandtouchpadmayalsobeCRUs.

•Optional-serviceCRUs:theseCRUsareisolatedpartswithinthecomputer

thatareconcealedbyanaccesspanel,whichistypicallysecuredbymorethan

twoscrews.Oncetheaccesspanelisremoved,theCRUisvisible.Bothtypes

ofCRUarelistedinthetableonthefollowingpage.
