Tousethediagnosticmediumyouhavecreated,dooneofthefollowing:
•IfyouhavecreatedthebootablediagnosticmediumonaUSBdevice,dothefollowing:
1.AttachtheUSBdevicetothecomputer.
2.T urnonthecomputer.Ifthecomputercannotbeturnedon,goto“Powersystemcheckout”onpage
28,andcheckthepowersources.Ifanerrorcodeisdisplayed,goto“Symptom-to-FRUindex”on
page35forerrorcodedescriptionsandtroubleshootinghints.
3.WhentheThinkPadlogoisdisplayed,repeatedlypressandreleasetheF12key.WhentheBoot
Menuwindowopens,releasetheF12key.
4.UsethearrowkeystoselectUSBHDDandthenpressEnter.Thediagnosticprogramwillbe
launchedautomatically.
5.Followtheinstructionsonthescreentousethediagnosticprogram.
•IfyouhavecreatedthebootablediagnosticmediumonaCD,dothefollowing:
1.T urnonthecomputer.Ifthecomputercannotbeturnedon,goto“Powersystemcheckout”onpage
28,andcheckthepowersources.Ifanerrorcodeisdisplayed,goto“Symptom-to-FRUindex”on

forerrorcodedescriptionsandtroubleshootinghints.
2.InserttheCDintoanexternalopticaldrive.
3.Restartthecomputer.
4.WhentheThinkPadlogoisdisplayed,repeatedlypressandreleasetheF12key.WhentheBoot
Menuwindowopens,releasetheF12key.
5.UsethearrowkeystoselectATAPICDx(x:0,1,...)andthenpressEnter.Thediagnosticprogram
willbelaunchedautomatically.
6.Followtheinstructionsonthescreentousethediagnosticprogram.
Powersystemcheckout
Toverifyasymptom,dothefollowing:
1.Connecttheacpoweradapterandturnonthecomputer.
2.Checkthatpowerissuppliedwhenyouturnonthecomputer.
3.T urnoffthecomputeranddisconnecttheacpoweradapter.
4.Checkthatthebatterypacksuppliespowerwhenyouturnonthecomputer.
Ifyoususpectapowerproblem,seetheappropriateoneofthefollowingpowersupplycheckouts:

Checkingtheacpoweradapter
Youareherebecausethecomputerfailsonlywhentheacpoweradapterisused.
•Ifthepower-onindicatordoesnotturnon,checkthepowercordoftheacpoweradapterforcorrect
continuityandinstallation.
•Ifthecomputerdoesnotchargeduringoperation,goto“Checkingoperationalcharging”onpage29
Tochecktheacpoweradapter,dothefollowing:
1.Unplugtheacpoweradaptercablefromthecomputer.
2.Measuretheoutputvoltageattheplugoftheacpoweradaptercable.Seethefollowinggure:
