Note:OntheWindows7operatingsystem,youcancreaterecoverymediausingdiscsorexternalUSB
storagedevices.
TocreaterecoverymediaontheWindows7operatingsystem,clickStart➙AllPrograms➙Lenovo
ThinkVantageTools➙FactoryRecoveryDisks.Then,followtheinstructionsonthescreen.
Usingrecoverymedia
Attention:Whenyouuserecoverymediatorestoretheharddiskdrivetothefactory-defaultstate,allthe
filescurrentlyontheharddiskdrivewillbedeleted.Thesefileswillbereplacedbythefactory-defaultfiles.
TouserecoverymediaontheWindows7operatingsystem,dothefollowing:
1.Dependingonthetypeofyourrecoverymedia,connectthebootUSBstoragedevicetothecomputer,
orinsertthebootdiscintotheopticaldrive.
2.Turnonorrestartyourcomputer.
3.Whenyouseethelogoscreen,repeatedlypressandreleasetheF12key.TheStartupDeviceMenu
windowisdisplayed.
4.SelectthedesiredstartupdeviceandpressEnter.Therestoreprocessbegins.
5.Followtheinstructionsonthescreentocompletetheoperation.
Note:Afterrestoringyourcomputerharddiskdrivetothefactory-defaultstate,youmighthavetoreinstall
devicedriversforsomedevices.See“Reinstallingprogramsanddevicedrivers”onpage66.
Performingbackupandrecoveryoperations
TheRescueandRecoveryprogramenablesyoutobackupallyourharddiskdrivecontentsincluding
theoperatingsystem,datafiles,softwareprograms,andpersonalsettings.Youcanstorethebackupat
thefollowinglocations:
•TheRescueandRecoveryworkspace
•Thesecondaryharddiskdriveifasecondaryharddiskdriveisinstalledinyourcomputer
•AnexternalUSBharddiskdriveconnectedtoyourcomputer
•Anetworkdrive
•Recordablediscs(arecordableopticaldriveisrequiredforthisoption)
Afteryouhavecompletedthebackupoperation,youcanrestorepartsorwholeofthedataonthehard
diskdrive.
Performingabackupoperation
ToperformabackupoperationusingtheRescueandRecoveryprogramontheWindows7operating
system,dothefollowing:
1.FromtheWindowsdesktop,clickStart➙AllPrograms➙LenovoThinkVantageT ools➙Enhanced
BackupandRestore.TheRescueandRecoveryprogramopens.
2.IntheRescueandRecoverymainwindow,clicktheLaunchadvancedRescueandRecoveryarrow.
3.ClickBackupyourharddriveandselectbackupoperationoptions.Then,followtheinstructionson
thescreentocompletethebackupoperation.
