Attention
Thedrivesinthecomputeryouareservicingmighthavebeenrearrangedorthedrivestartupsequencemight
hasbeenchanged.Beextremelycarefulduringwriteoperationssuchascopying,saving,orformatting.
Dataorprogramscanbeoverwrittenifyouselectanincorrectdrive.
Generalerrormessagesappearifaproblemorconictisfoundbyanapplicationprogram,theoperating
system,orboth.Fortheexplanationofthesemessages,refertotheinformationsuppliedwiththatsoftware
package.
BeforereplacinganyaFRU,makesurethatthelatestlevelofBasicInputOutputSystem(BIOS)isinstalled
onyourcomputer.Adown-levelBIOSmightcausefalseerrorsandunnecessaryreplacementofthesystem
board.FormoreinformationonhowtodetermineandobtainthelatestlevelBIOS,see“BIOSlevels”
onpage99
.
Usethefollowingproceduretohelpyoudeterminethecauseofaproblem:
1.Turnoffallattachedexternaldevicesandthecomputer.
2.Checkallcablesandpowercords.
3.Setalldisplaycontrolstothemiddleposition.
4.Turnonallattachedexternaldevicesandthecomputer.
•Lookforthedisplayederrorcodes
•Listenforthebeepcodes
•Lookforreadableinstructionsoramainmenuonthedisplay.

Checkingforpowerproblems
Ifthecomputerdoesnotturnonwhenthepowerswitchispressed,usethefollowingproceduretohelp
yousolvetheproblem:
1.Pressthepowerswitchtoturnonthecomputer.Checkthepowerindicatorlight-emittingdiode(LED)
nexttothepowerswitch.
•IftheLEDisilluminated(on),thecomputerpowerisOK.Attempttorunthediagnostics.See

.
•IftheLEDisnotilluminated(off),gotostep.
2.CheckthestatusofthepowerindicatorLEDontheac/dcpoweradapter.

3.Verifythatthepowercordiscorrectlyconnectedtoanacpoweroutlet.
