Thissectionprovidesinstructionsonhowtoreplacethesystemboard.
CAUTION:
Theheatsinkandmicroprocessormightbeveryhot.Turnoffthecomputerandwait
threetoveminutestoletthecomputercoolbeforeremovingthecomputercover.
Toreplacethesystemboard,dothefollowing:
1.Removethecomputercover.See“Removingthecomputercover”onpage68.
2.Takenotesofthelocationsofallpartsandallcableconnectorsonthesystemboard.See“Locating
components”onpage66and“Locatingpartsonthesystemboard”onpage67.Then,disconnectall
thecables.
3.Removethememorymodulesfromtheoldsystemboard.See“Installingorreplacingamemory
module”onpage70
.
4.Removethebatteryfromtheoldsystemboard.See“Replacingthebattery”onpage72.
5.Removetheheatsinkfromtheoldsystemboard.See“Replacingtheheatsink”onpage76.
6.Removethemicroprocessorfromtheoldsystemboard.See“Replacingthemicroprocessor”onpage

7.Removethescrewsthatsecuretheoldsystemboard.Then,carefullyremovetheoldsystemboard
outofthechassis.
8.Placetheoldsystemboardonacleanandatsurface.
9.Positionthenewsystemboardsothatthescrewholesarealignedwiththemountingstudsonthe
computercover.
10.Installthescrewstosecurethenewsystemboardinplace.
11.Installthememorymodules,battery,microprocessor,andheatsinkthatyouremovedfromtheold
systemboardtothenewsystemboard.
12.Connectallthecablestothenewsystemboard.See“Locatingpartsonthesystemboard”onpage67.

•Toworkwithanotherpieceofhardware,gototheappropriatesection.
•Tocompletethereplacement,goto“Completingthepartsreplacement”onpage84
.
Thefailingsystemboardmustbereturnedwithamicroprocessorsocketcovertoprotectthepinsduring
shippingandhandling.
Toinstallthemicroprocessorsocketcover,dothefollowing:
1.Removethemicroprocessorfromthemicroprocessorsocket.See“Replacingthemicroprocessor”

2.Closethemicroprocessorretainerandlockitintopositionwiththesmallhandle.
