Staticelectricityprevention
Staticelectricity,althoughharmlesstoyou,canseriouslydamagecomputercomponentsandoptions.
Improperhandlingofstatic-sensitivepartscancausedamagetothepart.Whenyouunpackanoptionor
aCRU,donotopenthestatic-protectivepackagecontainingthepartuntiltheinstructionsdirectyou
toinstallit.
WhenyouhandleoptionsorCRUs,orperformanyworkinsidethecomputer,takethefollowingprecautions
toavoidstatic-electricitydamage:
•Limityourmovement.Movementcancausestaticelectricitytobuilduparoundyou.
•Alwayshandlecomponentscarefully.Handleadapters,memorymodules,andothercircuitboardsbythe
edges.Nevertouchexposedcircuitry.
•Preventothersfromtouchingcomponents.
•Whenyouinstallastatic-sensitiveoptionorCRU,touchthestatic-protectivepackagecontainingthe
parttoametalexpansion-slotcoverorotherunpaintedmetalsurfaceonthecomputerforatleasttwo
seconds.Thisreducesstaticelectricityfromthepackageandyourbody.
•Whenpossible,removethestatic-sensitivepartfromthestatic-protectivepackagingandinstallthepart
withoutsettingitdown.Whenthisisnotpossible,placethestatic-protectivepackagingonasmooth,
levelsurfaceandplacethepartonit.
•Donotplacethepartonthecomputercoverorothermetalsurface.
Disablingthebuilt-inbatteries
Beforereplacinganydevices,ensurethatyouhavedisabledthebuilt-inbatteriesbydoingthefollowing:
1.Disconnecttheacpoweradapterandallcablesfromthecomputer.
2.Restartthecomputer.PressF1toenterThinkPadSetupwhenthelogoscreenappears.
3.SelectConfig➙Power.Thesubmenuisdisplayed.
4.SelectDisableBuilt-inBattery.
5.ClickYesintheSetupWarningwindow.Thenthecomputerturnsoffandthebuilt-inbatteriesare
disabled.Waitforafewminutestoletthecomputercool.
Note:Thebuilt-inbatterieswillbeautomaticallyenabledagainwhentheacpoweradapterisconnected
tothecomputer.
